Santa Clara, Cuba, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Dr. Carlos Hidalgo and his medical group are full of joy here today, after 15 elderly people, admitted to the Manuel Fajardo hospital, in this city in central Cuba, left the premises totally cured from the Covid-19.
The elderly are part of the epidemiological event that occurred in early April at the Nursing Home number 3, of this city, where a group of grandparents tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and were admitted to the Manuel Fajardo and Celestino Hernández hospitals.
«We said that most of the 17 grandparents who entered our hospital ward were going to be cured from Covid-19, and only two did not return to their Nursing Home,» Dr. Carlos Hidalgo revealed to Prensa Latina today.
“During the healing stage we mourned the death of a lady who we tried to save until her last breath; and another old woman, whose viral test was positive, we keep her in medical treatment, and we hope that in the next few days, without further complications, we can also discharge her”, he assures.
This doctor, small in height but great in medical principles, shuns all personal merit, considering that the return to life of these grandparents is a success of the health system and the Cuban Revolution.
«It was not something personal, nor of the work team, because for the care of these elderly we have all the necessary resources, supplies were always within our reach, the hospital even received food donations from farmers who provided the nutrients that our patients needed”, he adds.
Dr. Hidalgo states they communicate and exchange experiences with another group of doctors from the Celestino Hernandez hospital, who are also struggling to save the life of another group of elderly, and whose evolution is satisfactory and will soon begin to return home.
The morning of this hospital farewell, an elderly woman is asked how it feels to know that she is cured from the Coronavirus. «And am I really cured?» she asked herself with great candor, and then burst into tears with emotion.
