Titled #ViolenciaNo- Por los Derechos Políticos de la Mujer (lit. «#NoViolece – For the Political Rights of Women»), the initiative will be presented on YouTube, with the participation of program manager Ana Carolina Querino and project manager Ana Claudia Pereira, among others.
Focused on social media and dialogue with decision-makers, the campaign highlights that political violence is one of the barriers that prevent women from enjoying their human rights.
It also adds that other obstacles emerge related to the cross discrimination suffered by black, indigenous, young, disabled and other women, subjecting them to specific forms of aggression and violation of their rights.
«The elimination of all forms of violence against women in the public and private spheres contributes directly to guaranteeing full and effective participation at all levels of decision-making and the realization of their human rights,» said the representative of UN Women Brazil, Anastasia Divinskaya.
She described it as important that people «know and recognize political violence, understand how it manifests and affects women in their diversity, as well as support the victims.»
The official explained that women with the potential to make substantive contributions to society, win votes and be elected were withdrawn from electoral processes due to the violence they face in politics and elections.
