The president responded to a question in his morning conference at the National Palace on the legal situation of former president Enrique Peña Nieto and his former foreign minister Luis Videgaray, accused of receiving bribes from the Brazilian company Odebrecht.
The question arose from new revelations made by the former director of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) Emilio Lozoya, which involve both of them in the bribes from Odebrecht and in the master scam for hundreds of millions of dollars that put them at the head of the serious crimes of embezzlement.
Lopez Obrador said that it is up to the Attorney General’s Office to make the corresponding investigations, as well as the call to appear for those involved in the denunciation presented by Lozoya, which is done with absolute independence as it corresponds to an authentic democratic state.
He called for waiting for the Prosecutor’s Office, which must hand over the files to the court so that the judges can decide whether the people in question are guilty and act accordingly.
