Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister starts official visit to Kenya

Addis Ababa, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen started an official visit to Kenya on Monday, during which he will hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta on issues of bilateral interest.

The situation in Tigray, an Ethiopian state immersed in an armed conflict with the federal army since November 4, and its impact on East Africa, will be the leading issues that will be discussed during the meeting.

Mekonnen, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will continue a working tour that began in Uganda, designed to notify East African countries of the causes of the military operation against the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

Likewise, the foreign minister will explain that such procedure to manage an internal matter has legal grounds and is intended to bring to justice the TPLF, a party accused of committing crimes against humanity, and to restore constitutional order in that bordering state.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ordered an offensive, still under way, to neutralize the Front, the ruling organization of the regional state of the same name that attacked the Northern Command headquarters of the National Defense Force.

For more than 10 days of clashes, legality, stability and peace of the region suffered a deterioration that concerns international organizations and the neighboring countries of Ethiopia.
