Dominican Republic takes action for Easter due to Covid-19

Santo Domingo, April 2 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican government announced today that during the Easter Week celebration, religious activities in churches are prohibited in order to avoid the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19.

The coordinator of the Dominican High Level Commission against the Coronavirus, Gustavo Montalvo, thanked the constructive attitude of all the churches in the country, which are fully aware of the need to carry out this celebration without the presence of the parishioners.

Likewise, the also Minister of the Presidency pointed out that during the days of isolation, the celebration of parties in condominiums, spas, beaches and swimming pools will be prevented.

He emphasized the obligation of social distancing and non-agglomeration of people and said that this measure is also applicable to private areas such as housing developments, hotels or condominiums.

Finally, he said: «we must be firm in these provisions. The coronavirus is a threat to all Dominicans equally, without distinction of creeds, social classes, provinces or party colors, only by acting together and with determination we can defeat it».
