In statements to reporters at the Miraflores Palace, the president pointed out that Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza had spoken on Monday with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and had presented new documents on the links between US and Colombian authorities and this new aggression.
Maduro noted that the US Government delegated to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the private company of «military contractors» Silvercorp the planning of the actions to assassinate the president and stage a coup d’état in Venezuela.
In that effort, the DEA sought collaboration from drug lords and cartels in Colombia’s and Venezuela’s Guajira, as well as from criminal groups in the states of Falcon, La Guaira and Caracas, he underlined.
Maduro added that Venezuela’s intelligence services kept an eye on those mercenary groups, who were training in camps in Colombia, with advisory and funds from the United States.
The president said that since May 1, the security forces have had confirmation about the beginning of terrorist operations, so they timely activated all mechanisms of surveillance and protection along Venezuela’s shores.
He explained that on May 3, at dawn, a speedboat with intentions to land in the state of La Guaira was spotted, and there was a clash that resulted in the neutralization of several members of the first group and the capture of others.
