Cuban doctors provide over 225,000 consultations in Jamaica

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuba’s Medical Brigade in Jamaica has provided over 225,000 consultations, after giving hospital assistance to 46,236 patients in August, as part of its work in the joint response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As the Cuban diplomatic mission in Kingston reported to Prensa Latina, the internationalist contingent accumulated from April to August 225,660 consultations, with 4,136 lives saved.

At the end of August, Cuban healthcare professionals carried out 54,282 nursing procedures and 257 surgeries across the four regions and 14 Jamaican parishes, including 90 laser procedures linked to Miracle Operation program.

Amid the peak of Covid-19 cases in Jamaica, 150 members of the Cuban healthcare mission offered their services from the known red zone, in the front-line to care for Covid-19 patients.

The workdays in August registered the highest number of lives saved in the last five months of medical aid to the Jamaican people with 915, after counting out in April 716, in May 812, in June 823 and in July 870.

According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Jamaica reported 74 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours and the number of infections increased to 3,511, of which there are 1,151 recoveries and 40 deaths.

The Cuban medical brigade in Jamaica is made up of 433 professionals, of which 143 are physicians, 234 nursing graduates, six pathologists, 18 technologists, 10 electromedical engineers and the rest are management personnel.
