Association of Cubans in Guatemala calls for end to US blockade

Guatemala, April 15 (Prensa Latina) The Marti Association of Cubans Residing in Guatemala called on Thursday for a united voice and effort to lift the blockade against Cuba imposed by the U.S. government for almost 60 years.

In the face of the convulsive situation that the world is experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its dire consequences, we Cubans all join in the immense pain that exists today in this beautiful country of eternal spring,’ they say in a letter condemning the greatest demonstration of force and genocide by successive U.S. governments.

The Association denounces that ‘trying to break our people has been a projection of US foreign policy; nevertheless Cuba has demonstrated its capacity to resist and help the most needy in the world. We do not give what we have in excess; we share the little we have with the needy, a humanist principle of our social project’.

Despite the blockade, Cuba has created health protocols used in 19 countries around the world that have requested its collaboration in confronting the Covid-19, highlighted in their letter, where they ask for the lifting of a policy condemned in multiple UN resolutions by the majority of its member states.

Fulfilling Marti’s principle that Homeland is Humanity, the solidary army of the white coats with their men of science give their contribution to save lives, do not invade nations dressed in bulletproof vests or carry sophisticated weapons to attack and steal their resources, the text highlights.

In the midst of this pandemic, the United States is tightening its grip on the island’s health care system by blocking the arrival of aid from the Chinese Alibaba Foundation and preventing the Medicuba company from purchasing artificial respirators from the manufacturers IMT Medical AG and Acutronic, says the Association of Cubans in Guatemala.
