There is a lack of attention in the world and a policy of disconnection between the interests of big capital and the economic and financial benefits of these big transnationals and their employers, in order to ensure a minimum of guarantees for their labor and social benefits, said the union leader in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina.
To illustrate his assertion, the also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party resorted to the estimate of the International Labor Organization that more than 25 million workers will lose their jobs as a result of the Covid-19.
He added that a significant group of them will increase the precariousness of their jobs, and as a result of both, the basic income of these workers will decrease substantially with the rest of their social benefits.
We will have to continue to assess how the performance of the world economy is moving and what will be the effect of the mobilizations of the international trade union movement in the area of demands to large employers, in order to continue defending the workers’ rights and guarantees, he said.
The secretary general of the Cuban Workers’ Union (CTC) assured that in our country, from the very beginning, the government adopted a group of decisions aimed at protecting the people and the working class.
Guilarte explained that so far a package of 20 measures related to employment, wages and social assistance, issued by the Ministries of Labour and Social Security, and Finance and Prices, plus the Central Bank of Cuba, has been adopted.
He stressed that the most significant of these measures is to ensure those workers who went into isolation 100 percent of the basic wage during the first month and 60 percent during the period of the pandemic.
Regarding the productive sector, he said, they defended that where activity is taking place, workers should be paid by the established systems such as payment by result and piecework, where they earn for what they do.
Finally, he underlined the Cuban Government’s express will and decision to listen to proposals made by the trade union movement.
