Cuba: protocols intensified in zones of new Covid-19 events

Havana, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) The increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Cuba was the focus of attention at the meeting of the temporary working group for the prevention and control of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, chaired by President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Wednesday.

According to Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal, 50 local contagions events have been reported so far, and only six are still active, including two in the Havana municipalities of Cerro and La Lisa (one each), and two in Centro Habana.

The minister noted that the two other active events were reported in Bauta municipality, in Artemisa province.

In response to those events, the two provinces have intensified the health protocols to counter the local contagions.

Over the past few hours, authorities decreed the closure of beaches along the north coast of Caimito municipality, in Artemisa, while measures were reinforced in Bauta, where the other event was reported.

In Havana, resources are delivered at home in the quarantined areas, and care for the most vulnerable people, particularly food and medicine for the elderly, is guaranteed.

Havana Vice Governor Yanet Hernandez said that active surveys are implemented, and the personnel are trained by experts with experiences in previous events.

Deputy Prime Minister Roberto Morales insisted on the high quality of the surveys, the disinfection of work places and the administration of Cuban-made medications to improve people’s immunity, especially among risk groups.

«The treatment of suspected cases has to continue to be as if they had been confirmed with Covid-19, until it is proved otherwise; that is a lesson that we have already learned and cannot forget,» he pointed out.
