The electoral body indicated in a document that the decision was adopted after Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and representatives of federal states reached an agreement to hold the ballot.
In addition to maintaining the vote delegated by clans in the parliamentary electoral exercise, the agreement stipulates the formation of a committee for the resolution of electoral disputes, made up of 21 members.
According to the Hiraan Online website, the committee will also guarantee that 30 percent of the seats in both legislative chambers are held by women.
The dates of the upcoming legislative and presidential elections in Somalia are announced after in July, by means of a parliamentary motion, Hassan Ali Khaire was removed from his post as Prime Minister for alleged incompetence to establish a universal suffrage voting system, among other accusations.
Subsequently, the President Farmajo appointed Mohamed Hussein Roble as the new PM, who, along with his ministerial team, is tasked with arranging upcoming elections.
Various sources agreed that Somalia needs a government with solid institutions that help guarantee stability in this territory, where there is widespread violence promoted by the radical Islamic group Al-Shabaab, which carries out frequent armed attacks against military and civilian targets.
