After several months of work, a national plan integrates food production projects to strengthen crops and guarantee inputs in the country, the president noted.
«The program focuses on a problem shared by all: how to reduce food imports considering that today, a large part of the hard currencies we earn are dedicated to import food and fuels,» he stressed.
Accompanied by FAO Representative in Cuba Marcelo Resende de Souza and Brazilian theologian Frei Betto, Diaz-Canel assessed the program being implemented in the country for nutritional education and food sovereignty.
The joint initiative is based in Cuba’s capacity to produce food sustainably and reduce its dependence on foreign means and inputs regarding cultural diversity and environmental responsibility.
In that regard, Resende de Souza described as a strength the integrating contribution of local governments and the knowledge of their universities, as a clear strategy of the country, he said.
Frei Betto, in turn, assured that a future project is being created, so it is fundamental that the Cuban people feel that they are the protagonists.
