Scattered throughout the country, the 17 teams tasked with the identification of the disease analyzed 59,659 tests during the last week, explained the National Director of Epidemiology, Francisco Duran, in his weekly update on the evolution of the pandemic in the country.
Since the appearance of the first cases last March, when there were only three laboratories of this type, the national health system has managed to study 891,877 samples, of which 7,228, or 0.81 percent, tested positive, the specialist specified.
When taking stock of the incidence rates of the disease in recent days, Duran detailed that the province of Pinar del Río reached the figure of 79.98 per 100 thousand inhabitants, higher than the previous week, since the region is going through a rebound outbreak of the disease.
The provinces Ciego de Avila and Sancti Spiritus, in the center of the country, are second in this epidemiological parameter, with 26.54 and 21.68 per 100 thousand inhabitants respectively, while the capital presents a rate of 0.7, he highlighted.
The incidence rate is an important indicator for the evaluation of each territory and its passage to another epidemiological phase, hence the provinces that are going through a repeat outbreak such as Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus and Ciego de Avila continue are still on the phase of limited autochthonous transmission.
Meanwhile, Havana is still in phase III of recovery, with a favorable situation in its indicators, and the rest of the country continues advancing in the new normality, Duran stated.
