Lee Wang-jun, head of the board of directors of Myongji Hospital, explained that «Kaletra antiretroviral medication, which is used to treat AIDS, appears to have some effects on the new coronavirus».
«The viral level dropped significantly the day after Kaletra was administered and his pneumonia symptoms improved,» added the doctor named by the Yonhap agency.
In several parts of the world, reports were presented on various patients who fully recovered with the mixture of different medications, including Kaletra, the source said.
A doctor from the aforementioned institution explained that the results show that the medication should be administered for patients infected with the new coronavirus who have underlying diseases, or those at risk of pneumonia in the initial phase of treatment.
Prior to this case, on February 5, doctors in charge of another patient confirmed with Covid-19 said that Kaletra was administered before discharge.
South Korean doctors said at the time that they were not sure if the medicine had played a crucial role in the treatment, but various symptoms, such as cough, improved.
