The initiative, called Minga for Life, is based on measures that do not affect the most impoverished sectors of society and make contributions from the richest groups in the country.
The redistribution of wealth through a 1-percent contribution from the assets of the 270 largest economic groups, as well as 2 percent on the individual wealth over one million dollars, are part of the project.
The project makes emphasis on the urgent need for a tax law for the large fortunes concentrated in few hands, the increase in taxes on the rent for companies with profits over one million dollars, and maximum tariffs for the abovementioned economic groups.
Relieving the economy of micro and small enterprises to achieve equal opportunities is another objective of the so-called People’s Parliament, made up of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), the Unitary Front of Workers (FUT) and the Popular Front.
In order to achieve that goal, the proposal is to eliminate the tax on rent for micro and small enterprises, in addition to guaranteeing and reducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) at 10%.
The Minga for Life will be presented massively by the People’s Parliament on July 30.
