Covid-19 catches up with Trump in Rust Belt states

Washington, Oct 20 (Prensa Latina) The US President Donald Trump may lose in this election some territories so-called industrial belts that largely made possible his assumption of the power in 2016, experts highlighted today.

Anger at Trump’s Covid-19 crisis management qualifies as the key element that, in perspective, will decide against him.

The states of the Rust Belt, including Ohio and Pennsylvania, gave Donald Trump the presidency, and will help once again to decide November 3´s elections.

Four years ago, the aspiring head of state’s economic revitalization message won many white working-class voters who had voted for Dem. Barack Obama in 2012.

Poll data proves that the 2020 presidential race is increasingly turning into a referendum on US president’s Covid-19 management.

Reuters / Ipsos polls conducted from October 9 to 13 proved that 50% of likely voters nationwide feel that Democratic candidate Joe Biden would better deal with the pandemic response, compared to Trump´s 37%.

Likewise, opinion polls in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin show a bias towards Biden as the best candidate to lead the country´s recovery after the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

According to analyst Pablo Pardo, many residents of these states liked president’s protectionist business philosophy, the strong defense of the right to bear arms, and hard-line stance on immigration.

Such issues helped Trump win in separate counties like Trumbull by about 6% and Northampton 4%.

According to some Media interviews such as The New York Times newspaper or foreign correspondents´statements who have gone to Trumbull and Northampton counties revealed deep frustration with Trump for minimizing the disease and for not wearing a face mask consistently.

In recorded conversations with journalist Bob Woodward published last month, the president acknowledged that he had downplayed the danger despite of having evidence to the contrary so as not to scare the US public.
