The first two quakes, of magnitudes 4.23 and 3.85, respectively, were reported 14 minutes apart by locals and confirmed by the Geophysical Institute.
According to the entity, the initial shake was reported at 00:11 (local time) at 6.83-km depth and 42.24 kilometers from the city of Bahia de Caraquez, in Manabi.
The second was at 00:15, at 5.23-km depth and 43.38 kilometers from the same point.
The institute confirmed that the third earthquake of magnitude 3.56 took place at 02:02, 47.31 kilometers from Esmeraldas.
Initial reports indicate that there is no material or human damage as a result of the shakes.
