The floras were found in the New York municipality of Maranhão, in the Boa Esperança dam, on the banks of the Parnaiba River, bordering Piaui.
«We found the remains of a petrified trunk on the banks of the Parnaiba River. They were analyzed in a laboratory and were also taken to Porto Alegre to be part of another research project,» said paleontologist Professor Juan Cisneros, of the Center for Nature Sciences at the Federal University of Piaui.
To have an idea, «these species are older than dinosaurs» and the project was founded in 2011 and traveled to several places for research, he said.
