The parliamentarians are part of a group of 12 candidates that electoral authorities banned from running in the legislative elections in September 2021, because they did not meet the requirements.
They are blamed of promoting Hong Kong’s independence, seeking foreign sanctions and deliberately opposing to the Government’s plans.
Hong Kong Executive Chief Carrie Lam defended the action, criticized the mass resignation of 15 other opposition lawmakers as an expression of rejection, and assured that she is open to the suggestions from that bench, as long as they respect the functions of the Legislative Council.
She explained that her administration sought support from the NPC to deal with the problems in the Parliament of Hong Kong, and the decision made on Wednesday is legal and indisputable.
