According to estimates, more than half of 20,000 students coming from abroad to schools in New Zealand will be Chinese.
However, the Association asked schools to take precautions, such as asking families and education agents to supervise the students’ temperatures before they leave their country of origin.
“When the students arrive in the country, the schools can run their own small and easy tests to check if their temperature is high, and if it is, then they can take measures,” said der Zwan.
He also confirmed that in spite of the virus, there is no reduction in registrations, nor has any student cancelled or delayed their plans to travel to New Zealand.
In the meantime, schools in Auckland opened their registrations to more foreign students than any other region in the country, and the president of the Auckland Secondary Schools Principals’ Association, Richard Dykes, said they would follow the advice of the Ministry of Health on how to limit the possible propagation of the coronavirus.
