Iranian Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian confirmed that more facilities will be built in a power plant on the coast of the Persian Gulf that will increase its generation threefold until the abovementioned figure is achieved.
Ardakanian explained nuclear energy is a priority in the country’s plans to diversify energy sources.
In Busher, a town where there is a nuclear plant, two one-gigawatt units will be added in order to achieve that goal, he pointed out.
The minister noted that financial problems hindered the work in the stations operated by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI).
The Russian company Rosatom is participating in the construction of two nuclear plants that will start up operations in 2027, according to the schedule.
Over the last two years, Iran has increased its power generation capacity to nearly 86 gigawatts.
