With an increasingly polarized country, the opposition call for a banner emerged from social networks, which even called for mobilization in front of the private home of several officials, including the vice president.
«Disagreeing with a government is part of democracy. Mobilizing, even with the risk it implies in a pandemic. But promoting a call for a protest at a person’s home only encourages the rift and damages not democratic coexistence,» Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez noted in a strong message on Twitter.
The call to gather in front of Cristina Fernandez’s house was also rejected by the Chief of Staff Santiago Cafiero who expressed his rejection of media, such as Clarin broadcasting, making the vice president’s home a point of protest.
«We ask the opposition to speak out against those dangerous practices and take the path of democratic dialogue and good sense,» Cafiero highlighted. Militants and leaders of several political spaces gathered in front of the Presidential Residence of Olivos to express their support for the Executive. «If the opponents want to protest, they can do so in Plaza de Mayo or the Obelisco, as was always done. We do not understand the new way of doing it in front of the president’s home,” they said.
On the other side of the city, once again alleging a lack of supposed freedoms or in «defense of the Republic», among other arguments, those summoned by the opposition concentrated on the Obelisk.
«It is very clear that they do not defend the Republic or respect the institutions» but rather «are the prophets of hatred,» Interior Minister Wado De Pedro pointed out on Twitter.
The demonstration occurs just when, for the first time today, former president Mauricio Macri will give an interview to a local channel after past Saturday he asked the leaders of the PRO (Republican Proposal) «to continue fighting to return to normalize the country.»
