This international organization called to redouble efforts in the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and indoor fumigation campaigns, and to provide those services by applying the best practices available to protect health professionals amid Covid-19.
Malaria is caused by parasites of the genus Plasmodium, which are transmitted to people by the bite of an infected vector, the Anopheles mosquito.
Of the five species of parasites that cause malaria in humans, the most deadly is the Plasmodium falciparum. Prompt diagnosis and treatment mitigate the impact of this disease, reduce its deadly effects and contribute to prevent its transmission.
According to WHO – major sponsor of the “Zero Malaria” campaign – it is necessary to implement urgent measures to regain momentum and responsibility in the face of this challenge.
