The recount will begin tomorrow and last 25 days, according to the announcement made by the electoral commission.
The date was welcomed the day before by Guyanese President David Granger, who urged citizens to patiently await the outcome of the recount.
The whole nation is waiting for the completion of the ballot count and the official declaration of the results, the ruler said, hoping to put an end to the crisis unleashed by the vote two months ago that prevented the final outcome from being announced.
Granger reiterated that he will accept the conclusions of the recount in order «for a democratically elected government to take office.
He said the March 2 elections were «free, fair and orderly,» but «subsequent events resulted in the prolongation of the electoral process far beyond the deadline for declaring results.
