The information was provided by Guyana’s Foreign Minister, Karen Cummings, referring to Carter Center and the International Republican Institute.
In response to a request from several US senators, including Marcos Rubio and Robert Menéndez, Guyana´s foreign minister said the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is «the most legitimate interlocutor in Guyana´s situation and the Covid-19 pandemic.»
In this regard, she pointed out that Guyana´s government «trusts the legitimacy, credibility and competence» of CARICOM, made up of 15 countries, to carry out its work in the new election vote count.
The vote count began 10 days ago, in the hope of ending the crisis unleashed by the opposition’s election contesting.
The count includes the establishment of 2,339 ballot boxes from general and regional elections across the 10 districts of the country.
