According to the Ministry of Health, of the 37 cases recorded yesterday, 32 are from Grand Bahama and 5 from the island of New Providence, with a hospitalization increase of 33 percent since the previous day.
The Commonwealth of the Bahamas records a total of 484 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 235 of them reported since July 8, a week after the resumption of international flights, which ranks this nation second with the highest number of cases in the English-speaking Caribbean, after Jamaica, with 855 cases.
Grand Bahama has the highest number of Covid-19 cases (243), followed by New Providence (185), and Bimini (21).
The Nassau Guardian reported that the president of the Bahamas Nurses Union, Amancha Williams, said that between 24 and 50 nurses were exposed to Covid-19 in the wards.
On the other hand, the president of the Consultant Physicians Staff Association, Sabriquet Pinder-Butler, said that the professionals of this sector are concerned about the ability of the public healthcare system to cope with a rise of hospitalized patients.
With dozens of nurses and physicians quarantined after being potentially exposed to the novel coronavirus, Pinder-Butler said that the lack of labor is starting again to pressure the Bahamian healthcare personnel.
Until this Thursday, Bahamas completed 4,143 Covid-19 tests, with 380 active cases, 91 recoveries, and 11 deaths.
