Former Bolivian coup leader asked to appear in court

La Paz, Dec 22 (Prensa Latina) The head of the Bolivian House of Deputies, Freddy Mamani, on Tuesday asked former de facto President Jeanine Añez to appear in court for abuses committed during her term in office.

Among several indictments on Añez, closely related to irregularities during her term in office, Freddy Mamani referred to the deaths of civilians during the post-election repression in late 2019 and to the corruption case over the purchase of respirators for seriously-ill Covid-19 patients.

«We highly recommend that Jeanine Anez must be held accountable for the respirators, corruption cases and massacres during her term. In this government, health is not a pretext or a privilege,» Mamani tweeted.

Mamani’s statement responded to Añez’s request to ban the entry of individuals from the United Kingdom to Bolivia, where a new strain of the new coronavirus, more contagious, although specialists ruled out that it is not too lethal, was recently reported.

In terms of health, the Jeanine Añez administration was described as disastrous by analysts and specialists in this sector, especially due to poor policies implemented to fight the new coronavirus.
