WHO’s Influenza Preparedness and Response chief Ann Moen explained that even though the disease has been reported very little in the southern hemisphere, thanks to protection actions, several countries have not been able to bet that medicine
Given this situation, WHO published a series of recommendations passed by the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization for vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goal is to prevent national health systems from collapsing, and to protect the most important and vulnerable groups: pregnant women, health workers, children, the elderly and people with diseases.
Moen recommended these people to be vaccinated to reduce the disease, although he clarified this immunization does not contribute to the elimination of Covid-19.
In view of the possible lack of vaccines, Moen pointed out that around 500 million doses are being produced, with a higher demand this year, though in the southern hemisphere, only 1% of people tested positive, compared to 10 and 30% of the population in other years.
