The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Foreign Minister Tete Antonio, and other high-ranking officials separately exchanged with the special envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for that area, Ambassador Huang Xia.
In statements to the press, Xia appreciated the value of the assessment made by Angolan authorities. Angola and the UN agree that there are improvements, but cooperation must be strengthened for the sake of development and sub-regional integration.
According to the Angolan Foreign Ministry, the area is experiencing relative peace, but there are still important sources of tension, which continuity threatens peace and stability.
The security situation in the member states of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region remained relatively calm between January and September of this year, indicated the Foreign Ministry in a press release.
In the agency’s view, the support of national, regional and international partners contributed to increasing the culture of talks and consultation, trust among the region’s elites, commitment to democratic and inclusive processes, and the use of multilateral solution of dispute mechanisms.
